Earlier this month former Fight Club Rush bantamweight champion Bernardo Sopai was stripped of his title due to a contract dispute, but the division must go on. That is why a new champion will be crowned at FCR 19 as Spain's Hecher Sosa (7-1) will take on top Finnish bantamweight Tuomas Grönvall (11-5-1) for the vacant strap!
FCR 19 goes down at Quality Hotel in Solna, Stockholm on February 24th.
Sosa is one of the hottest Spanish prospects at the moment and he has built up his career and legacy inside the FCR cage. As a three time Spanish amateur MMA champion and three-time IMMAF medalist he as plenty of credentials and lined up two straight wins via finish after making his pro debut.
Stepping in on short notice against Jonny Touma at FCR 10 Sosa enthralled the fans with his FCR debut, winning via first round knockout. Sosa lost his following FCR bout to Karlen Minasian but rebounded with a dominant win over Bilal Tipsaev at FCR 14.
Since then Sosa has added to his current win streak with three additional wins, two in FCR, and most recently defeated Aaron Robinson via decision at FCR 18 in November.
Grönvall is a true veteran of Finnish MMA who has competed for over a decade, making his pro debut in 2012, winning six our of his nine first fights.
Over the years Grönvall has defeated the likes of Renato Vidovic and Artemij Sitenkov - who holds a 2008 win over the infamous Conor McGregor.
Currently Grönvall has won four out of his five last fights, including a win over Italian veteran Luca Iovine, with the lone loss coming via a decision to ex UFC title challenger Wilson Reis.
The FCR bantamweight division is undoubtedly one of the promotions best and the weight class will have a new king in 2024.
