FCR 12 gets top-class amateur contest as Anton Hellström Faces Martin Corney

Updated: Apr 10, 2022

Amateur MMA has undoubtedly grown in popularity, skill level and intrigue - something that is more than evident in the latest fight booking for FCR 12.

The first amateur bout scheduled for FCR 12 on May seventh in Västerås was recently announced: A lightweight battle between Anton Hellström and Martin Corney.

Hellström is a three-time Swedish amateur boxing champion who recently transitioned to MMA. The former boxer was putted against Dimitris Dimitriadis at FCR 10 in a bout where Hellström excelled but also unintentionally fouled his opponent several times. This led to Hellström losing his MMA debut via disqualification, unfortunately. While correcting ill-placed knees were a minor takeaway his well-rounded MMA-game was never questioned afterwards.

Corney is a highly touted prospect who trains with former ONE Championship title holder Zebaztian Kadestam, amongst others. He competed at Brave CF in August of 2020, defeating above mentioned Dimitriadis via rear naked choke in the third round.

While they may be amateurs both these young and highly skilled fighters are ready to make their mark before making the move to pro MMA.
