The lightweight division in Sweden is heating up and the latest Fight Club Rush only further strengthens that notion as Baysangur Makaev (3-1) is now booked to take on Erik Wahrolén (1-0) in a pivotal match up at FCR 19 on UFC Fight Pass, February 24th.
Makaev has relocated to House of Samurai in Lund, Southern Sweden, training alongside UFC lightweight Guram Kutateladze.
While Makaev got a tough start to his pro career, losing via knockout to current Oktagon star Samuel Bark, he is since perfect inside the cage.
Makaev picked up his first pro win by finishing Pawel Szumlas via ferocious TKO at FCR 14 and followed up with a dominant win over Grzegorz Szozda at FCR 16. Since then Makaev has also scored a decision win over the highly experienced Moha Jaghdal in september of last year.
Wahrolén has been a slick grappler on the amateur scene for many years but broke through to mainstream appeal during his stint on Expedition Robinson - the Swedish version of Survivor.
Upon returning to the cage Wahrolén submitted rising prospect August Jacobsson and followed it up with a dominant decision win over Enrique Parraguez at FCR 16.
Wahrolén made his pro debut against Ibrahim Halil Milli at FCR 17. In a performance that was as phenomenal as it was short Wahrolén shocked pundits by scoring a brutal first round knockout victory, setting the stage for a great pro career.
After a long period with few lightweight prospects on the Swedish MMA scene the division is heating up and both Makaev and Wahrolén could position themselves at the top of the heap.
