Since his return to MMA following a two year hiatus, Västerås Fight Club powerhouse fighter Andreas "Bane" Gustafsson (9-2) has been on a roll. Now he returns at Fight Club Rush 18 to do duke it out with the battle-hardened Austrian Dominic "The Dom" Schober (13-10)!
The middleweight bout will serve as the co-main event of FCR 18, which goes down at Västerås Arena on November 25th.
As a successful representative on the Swedish National MMA Team which saw him win a silver medal in the 2018 World Championships, Gustafsson has competed a pro since January 2019.
When he moved to pro "Bane" lindes up six straight, impressive wins (two of which in FCR), with only Brazilian Givago Francisco going the distance and capping of the streak with an epic slugfest against Miro Jurkovic, with the Swede winning via third round TKO.
After that Gustafsson debuted in top Euro promotion KSW, losing a close decision to Olympian Damian Janikowski. That loss, in combination with general weariness for competition, cause Gustafsson to go into a two year retirement. That was until he returned at FCR 14 last year, facing Lukasz Dziudzia in the main event. Despite some early adversity Gustafsson would secure a second round TKO win.
Following that comeback win the Swede went 1-1, with the loss coming via majority decision to top-notch prospect Joilton Lutterbach. In his last outing, Gustafsson gave the fans his magnum opus, engaging in two blood-soaked rounds of unforgettable action against Finnish striker Toni Lampinen in the main event of FCR 16. Gustafsson emerged as the victor via second round TKO in what is thus far the best Swedish MMA fight of 2023.
Austria's Schober has competed professionally since 2011 and is a fearless finisher, with 85% of his wins having been secured before the final bell. "The Dom" has also fought top-notch competition along the likes of current UFC fighter Phil Hawes, top-ranked Nemanja Nikolić and Dana White's Contender Series vet Chad Hanekom.
Since 2022 Schober is undefeated with two straight wins, including a victory over Allstars Training Centers Arturs Ozolins.
Nobody can question what Gustafsson is made out of at this point, however Schober could very well sweep through, using his veteran experience to steal "Banes" shine. It remains to be seen who emerges on top, though the fans are surely in for a violent treat once more.
